Asks authorities to formulate a plan at the earliest
The issue of covering the Ganda Nallah, which flows through five wards in old city, may soon see the light of the day. Though the project was inaugurated more than four years ago with the total cost pegged at Rs 15 crore, work had to be aborted after paying Rs 1.25 crore to the contractor as the authorities failed to decide whether to cover it or let it remain open. The 1.3 km stretch has thus become a garbage dump.
The chief minister visited the site today and asked the MC Commissioner to make a concrete plan about the nallah at the earliest. He was, however, keen to cover the nallah.
The new cost of the project is being pegged at Rs 30 crore. Filth can be seen lying in the nallah with encroachments galore as the sullage from the nallah falls into the Buddha Nallah. However, no deadline has been given by the CM to formulate the project.
In yet another case, Joginder Kumar, President of electroplaters association complained to the CM that water-logging from Vishvkarma Chowk till Dholewal Chowk has been causing problem to the commuters since 1963. He said, 8220;The augmentation of the sewer system is needed apart from storm sewer facility in the area. Nothing has been done till date.8221;
Early bird
The CM today reached five minutes before the scheduled time at ward number 16 but he found the hall vacant. He got angry and forced the SAD leaders to run amok to get the audience.
BJP is SAD
Although today8217;s function was in Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosian8217;s constituency, who hails from the BJP but once again BJP leaders and councillors were feeling left out. They were seen grumbling that most of the seats on the stage were grabbed by the SAD leaders.
