SYDNEY, January 14: A rookie Australian side trounced a hapless New Zealand by 131 runs to cruise into the finals of the tri-nation series at the Sydney Cricket Ground here today.
Set 251 to win, New Zealand who had to win to keep their hopes of a finals berth alive, simply couldn8217;t cope with some electric Aussie fielding. Three batsmen were run out, two brilliantly by Man-of-the-Match Ricky Ponting.
