It also urged Habibie to bring to justice members of the military who commit human rights abuses, and said his methods had a 8220;striking similarity8221; to those used by fallen strong man Suharto. In the six months since Habibie took over from Suharto, with 8220;a high profile agenda for political and human rights reform8221; including prisoner releases, the Government appeared to have 8220;lost sight of its commitments8221;. Despite positive initiatives, such as ratifying the convention against torture, 8220;the reality is that human rights continue to be violated,8221; said Amnesty.
