MUMBAI, JULY 28: Arun Subramaniam powered himself into contention for the Entrant’s Division Chess title with an emphatic victory in the fourth round of the play-off league at Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Canteen on Tuesday evening. The first year student of Pendharkar College, Dombivli upstaged Aditya Vora in 35 moves to emerge the sole leader with four points in his kitty.

With only two rounds remaining, Arun stands a bright chance of pocketing the crown.

Wesley Falcao, a ninth standard student of Carmelite School, Vasai closely follows the leader with 3.5 points after registering a lucky victory over Ganesh Pednekar. Ganesh’s brother, Nitin, ensured some solace for the Pednekars, by upsetting top seed Manoj Tawade in an English opening that lasted 45 moves.
