A group of Left leaning artists and party workers on Monday protested against the crackdown on artist Salima Hashmi and human rights activist Asma Jehangir in Pakistan. Hashmi is the daughter of the noted poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz and wife of Shoaib Hashmi. The protesters demanded the restoration of democracy and the release of Hashmi and Jehangir and other democratic-minded people. Those who signed the statement included CPI(M)’s Suneet Chopra, photographer Ram Rehman and poet Vishnu Nagar.
