CHANDIGARH, May 9: Six robbers who were arrested here yesterday by the Crime Branch of the city police, were remanded to police custody for three days by Duty Magistrate A. K. Bishnoi.
The prosecution had applied for a police remand of five days on the ground that the stolen items had to be recovered from their possession. The magistrate, however, directed them to be produced again on May 12.
Those who were remanded were: Tarsem, Bhupinder Singh alias Fauji, Gurdhyan, Karandeep, Harpal and Ajmer. All of them are around 25 years of age and come from villages near the Union Territory. They were arrested for dacoity under Section 399 and 402 of the Indian Penal Code and under the Arms Act.
Police said they were arrested while trying to rob a bank. A pistol and five cartridges were recovered from their possession.
The six-member gang was reportedly involved in quite a few incidents of robberies and snatching over the past couple of months.
