CHANDIGARH, Nov 1: The Army Aviation Corps celebrated its 14th anniversary in the Western Command at Chandimandir Cantonment here today.Western Command General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Lt General Vijay Oberoi felicitated all ranks of the Corps on the occasion. In his message, Army Aviation Corps Additional Director General Maj Gen S.J.S. Saighal, congratulated all ranks of the Corps for displaying admirable professional skill and maintaining an excellent flight safety record.Two Army aviation squadrons, 663 and 666 have been awarded Chief of Army staff citations for their performance in Operation Vijay.During the Kargil operations, Corps personal carried out reconnaissance and observation missions, delivered essential stores and evacuated casualties from the front lines. Col D.S. Yadav of the unit stated: "At present, we are the largest helicopter operators in Asia; we have Cheetahs and Chetaks."Army Aviation Corps has grown into an effective air arm of the Army since its formation on November 1, 1986. The Corps has provided the air link for troops on Siachen glacier, has been deployed in Somalia and Sri Lanka and rendered aid to civil authorities in critical situations.
