Armenians, CCamp;FC enter semi-finals

Armenians play Bombay Gymkhana while CCamp;FC take on Dimbula Sri Lanka in the semi-finals tomorrow.

It was against the run of play that Armenians scored a penalty. But GBP equalised within five minutes when Rajesh Tondawalkar converted a penalty. But Tondwalkar8217;s exit before half-time due to injury made a difference.Vice-captain Emil Vartazarian kicked two penalties for Armenians while Sepooh Mkertechian and Henrik Terchounian scored a try each.

Herman Bull8217; Balsara, also the coach, led CCamp;FC from the front. He scored two tries while Tony McLuskie, Nicholas Menezes, Niklesh Jigan and Rioman Jeejboy chipped in with a try each.

Jai Ambe shocked unbeaten Wenden Institute, Central Railway 1-0 in a Chhatrapati Shivaji Trophy first division match organised by MDFA at Xavier8217;s Ground, Parel today. Nagesh Pujari headed in the winner off a Ashok Yadav flag kick awarded ten minutes before the final whistle. The goalless first half saw rough tackles, and as many as eight yellow cards were flashed.

Air-India struck once in each half to earn a hard-fought 2-0 victory over their neighbours Indian Airlines, their second off as many matches in the inaugural twelve-team Kalina soccerleague organised by Our Lady of Egypt Church sports committee at St Mary8217;s School, Kalina yesterday. Prem Malhotra and Johnny Fernandes scored for the winners. It was Indian Airlines8217; first reverse.

In another match, Nester8217;s Compound trounced Behind the Church SC 5-0, teenager Pradeep Dube recording the first hat-trick of the league.

Bombay Customs sealed their berth in the Wifa senior division football Super Five league at the Cooperage after they shut out Mumbai Port Trust MbPT 2-0. Customs also denied MbPT a place in the top half, as MbPT needed a win to qualify. Raza Rizvi and Nitin Shetty scored for the winners.

In another match, PK Ramesn 2, Bosco Fernandes, Rajesh Pendurkar and Neil D8217;Costa struck as Income-Tax trounced Rizvi 5-1.

Tolani8217;s, Ingersoll top

Tolani8217;s, comprising Deepak Pradhan, Arvind Vaidya, Arun Bapat and R Agarwal, and Ingersoll Rand Vijay Phatarphekar, Anand Samant, Ajit Chakradeo, P Hegde were the top finishers after eight rounds among 34 teams in the annual Bombay Contract Bridge Association state-level team event, sponsored by Bombay Contract Bridge Association, at Catholic Gymkhana on Sunday. UBA and Jeroo Mango were the other two qualifiers for the super league.
