April 10: The Bandra police on Friday arrested the owner of Archies Gallery at Bandra for possession of pirated tapes on April 7.

A case was registered against the owner, Ram Avtar Deora, following a spate of raids by the Indian Music Industry IMI8217;s Anti-Piracy teams on several Archies franchises suspected of selling pirated tapes.

According to former Mumbai police commissioner and chief coordinator of Indian Music Industry IMI8217;s anti-piracy cell Julio Ribeiro, there have been a lot of cases where shops accept orders for recording of music compilations as well as sell pirated tapes. 8220;Both are cognizable and non-bailable offences under the Copyright Act,8221; he said. 8220;This will kill the music industry,8221; said Ribeiro.

Meanwhile, Deora has been denied bail by the Holiday Metropolitan Magistrate. 8220;More than 50 tapes and CDs were confiscated by the police from Deora8217;s shop following the raid,8221; informed Neena Ribeiro. The raid was carried on four such franchises, she added, but no evidence was foundat the others.
