MUMBAI, SEPT 9: Aptech Limited, Lotus Development Corporation and Wipro Net have come together to set up a virtual education network for online training in India. The project will primarily target corporates who spend a substantial amount of time and money in training employees, Aptech managing director Ganesh Natrajan said at a press conference on Thursday.

Vincent C Y Lee, managing director of Lotus Development Corporation for Asean and India said IBM would do 30 per cent of its training online in 1999 and save close to 100 million in the bargain. Lotus is a subsidiary of IBM Corporation. Last year, IBM did 15 per cent of its training online.

The online courses will be in the area of software engineering, knowledge management and project management among others. Aptech, which is designing the courses, has developed modules on making e-business a reality, building an electronic store with Net.com and fundamentals of Java programming. It is targeting 30,000 students for online training through its various ventures in 2000.
