In another killing that rocked Kancheepuram today, the administrator of the Utharadhi Sri Vaishnava Mutt was beaten and stabbed to death within the premises.
The 150-year-old mutt is situated behind the Kanchi Varadarajaswamy temple whose manager Sankararaman8217;s murder led to the arrest of the Kanchi Shankaracharya and his deputy. Police, however, said today8217;s killing had no connection with that case.
T.C. Shrinivasacharya was apparently hit on the head with a blunt weapon and stabbed while he was sleeping. He was found lying in a pool of blood this morning by his friend Ramanji, administrator of the Sriperumpudur mutt, who was sleeping in an adjacent room.
Ramanji arrived at the mutt yesterday after Shrinivasacharya told him he had to Patna to attend his mother8217;s funeral and that he wanted someone to take care of the mutt during his absence. He was supposed to leave tonight.
Inquiries revealed that the mutt had agricultural land in Nathapet village and Thenampakkam. Income from the land kept the mutt going. Neighbours said Shrinivasacharya, like Sankararaman, often complained to the police about others. But DIG S.G. Rajendran ruled out any link with the Sankararaman murder case.
