
MUMBAI, July 24: Even before he could be bailed out of one case, the Agripada police have registered another against Arun Gawli. This time, he has been accused of forcibly evicting a resident of Dagdi Chawl in 1990. Speaking at a press conference here this afternoon, the deputy police commissioner zone II, Param Bir Singh, said: 8220;If Gawli succeeds in getting a bail, we have enough evidence to arrest him again.8221;
Chandraprabha A Gajare 42 in an FIR filed at the Agripada police station has said that she was asked to vacate room no 12 in Dagdi Chawl. When she refused to do so, she was beaten up and thrown out by Arun Gawli and his goons. Gajare used to cook food for Gawli8217;s men.
A case under sections 395, 397, 452, 506 II and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. Pradeep Gawli, Tanya Koli, Sada Pawle, Raju Philips, Kalaya Babu, Dayanand Shetty and Hemant Rane are some of the other accused named in the FIR.
Gajare, who was present at the press conference, said her problems started when she refused to surrender her house to Gawli, who was offering to pay Rs 50,000 for it. The house was worth well over Rs 3 lakh then, she said.
She also alleged that Gawli wanted to marry her daughter Sangita. 8220;I turned down his proposal. Gawli used to be always on the run. Besides these gangsters used to abduct businessmen and beat them up8230;I did not want my daughter to marry a gangster,8221; she added. The police were clearly very pleased with the woman for having gathered enough courage after over seven years to raise her voice against the don. 8220;We appreciate the courage shown by this woman. The police will provide adequate security to protect her life in case of any attack from the underworld,8221; said DCP Singh. Gajare said the complaint filed by an Asian Age reporter against Gawli encouraged her to come out in the open against the don.
