
The Andhra Pradesh Government on Monday constituted a five-member independent committee of experts to find out the causes that led to the collapse of the under-construction flyover in the busy Punjagutta area on Sunday night.
8220;The committee will have experienced engineers and experts, who will examine in detail the structural aspects to determine what went wrong,8221; said Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to review the situation in the wake of the mishap. The meeting, attended by senior officials of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Road and Buildings and Revenue, took stock of the prestigious Rs 30-crore flyover project that was running behind schedule.
The decision to appoint an expert committee came in the backdrop of Opposition criticism that poor quality construction and inefficient monitoring had led to the tragedy.
According to reports on Sunday night, 10 persons were feared killed in the accident.
