
The Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen8217;s most dramatic works will be staged in Delhi
Delhi8217;s top theatre venues will play host to the first Delhi Ibsen Festival which has been organised by the Norwegian Embassy in collaboration with Dramatic Art and Design Academy DADA. The festival is an ode to Henrik Ibsen, one of Norway8217;s greatest authors of all time. 8220;And scandalous because his works examined the realities behind the many facades of the Victorian era,8221; says Anuradha Kapur, Director of the National School of Drama and director of the play titled John Gabriel Borkman that will be staged on December 15. The play is about a coal miner8217;s son accused of embezzlement.
The festival that began yesterday has brought six national and international productions to the city. It starts with a Bengali production titled Lady from the Sea that explores issues of freedom and choice. This will be followed by White Horses, one of Norwegian director Jon Tombre8217;s most popular plays that is slotted to be staged today. One of the plays titled Little Eyolf is a Punjabi production directed by Neelam Mansingh.
A Norwegian production titled Ibsen women is another highlight of the festival. Slotted as the grand finale, the play will be performed by Juni Dahr, a leading Norweigian theatre and film actress who plays six characters in this musical. The play has also been directed by her.
