VADODARA, Feb 15: A federation of six municipal school boards in the State has called for the amendment of the Bombay Primary Education Act, 1947, and the Bombay Primary Training Rules, 1949, stating that both the 50-year-old Act and Rules had fallen short of the objectives they aimed to achieve. The demand was put forth at a meeting of the Federation held here on Saturday, presided by Surat Municipal School Board Chairman Hitendra Chudawala.

Chairmen of the Vadodara, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar boards also participated in the meeting. An appeal in this regard had been earlier forwarded to the State Government by Chudawala.

Stating that the liability to educate the poor and middle-class children rested with the State, Vadodara Municipal School Board Chairman and Federation office-bearer Kishen Seth in a release on Saturday said the Federation had demanded 100 per cent grant instead of the 80 per cent currently extended by the government.

According to the Federation, the assistance provided by the State was far from adequate to meet the expenses incurred towards providing education to the children. Pointing out to the 8220;grossly insufficient8221; expenditure of Re 1 per child, the Federation called for it to be raised upto Rs 10 per child for the all-round development of the children.
