
AHMEDABAD, Feb 28: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation AMC snapped 402 water and 11 drainage connections of property tax defaulters during February.
According to sources, the corporation has issued final notices to some 76 defaulters and recovered Rs 1.5 lakh so far.
The sources say even after distribution of bills, many residents failed to pay the property tax even after the last date. The AMC has issued three notices and a warrant, asking the defaulters to pay up the dues. Now, the AMC has decided to deal with the defaulters strictly and started a recovery drive to collect the arrears to the tune of Rs 350 crore.
As part of the drive, the corporation will snap the water and drainage connections of those defaulters who owe large amounts.
So far, 51 water and seven drainage connections in the central zone have been snapped, Rs 36,111 has been recovered and eight final notices have been issued. In the west zone, 19 water and one drainage lines have been disconnected, 16 final notices issued and Rs 50,000 has been recovered. In the north zone, the AMC has cut 65 water and three drainage lines, recovered Rs 20,500 and issued 25 final notices, while in the east zone 112 water connections have been snapped and 27 final notices issued. About Rs 33,340 has been recovered.
Similarly, in the south zone, 255 water connections have been snapped and Rs Rs 7,652 has been recovered.
Reports say till February 23, the AMC had recovered Rs 87.10 crore against the revised target of Rs 126 crore for the financial year ending on March 31. However, it was about Rs 26.62 crore more as compared to that in the corresponding period last year.
The west zone recorded an increase of 119.06 per cent, followed by the head office at Danapith with 21.70, the north zone with 16.93, the south zone with 16.76, the east zone with 13.53 and the central zone with 3.96 per cent.
