BATHINDA, April 8: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh today demanded a CBI probe into the large scale damage of paddy in the government stores due to delaying of milling operations.
Talking to mediapersons he alleged that paddy worth crores stored in the open at non-synthetic plinths had been rotting but the government was keeping its fingers crossed over the issue.
He was here to lead a Sarbans Dani Sharda Yatra dedicated to the tercentenary celebrations of Khalsa Panth. After a halt here the yatra left for Takht Damdama Sahib.
Amarinder Singh said as the cotton crop had been failing since the past five years and most of the industry in the state was facing recession, Punjab was heading towards a situation of quot;financial emergencyquot;.
Jagmeet Brar and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, who are reportedly dissatisfied with the top PPCC leadership, were conspicuous by their absence. The PPCC supremo had recently lodged a complaint of indiscipline against Bhattal to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi. He had conveyed to Sonia Gandhi how Bhattal had unilaterally taken the decision to boycott the Assembly session without the consent of party leader in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
The party had earlier scheduled this yatra in January. Jagmeet Brar was given the charge to handle the yatra. The programme was cancelled by the PPCC reportedly fearing that Brar would politically benefit from the yatra.
