The BJP is going through a rough patch. With constant pulls and pressures from its erratic allies, the party is struggling hard to maintain a straight face.

In Karnataka, despite the BJP8217;s claims that everything is alright, its alliance with the Janata Dal Secular is tottering. 8220;The BJP-JDS alliance in Karnataka is intact and stable. Power transfer will take place on October 3 as scheduled,8221; said Anant Kumar, BJP General Secretary, who also hails from the state.

According to an agreement reached between the BJP and the JDS, the first 20 months of the term a JDS man would be at the helm of affairs and the next 20 months a BJP man. But JDS Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is non-committal on power transfer and said it will be decided by his father H D Deve Gowda, while the Congress is weighing the option of offering support to him to continue as Chief Minister of the state.

In Maharashtra, on the other hand, the relations between the BJP and the Shiv Sena is yet to thaw. The party admitted on Friday that the Sena had not spelt out its stand on the NDA vice-presidential nominee Najma Heptullah.
