MUMBAI, May 31: A dip in an isolated and abandoned waterhole cost four teenagers their life in Dahisar on Saturday.
Brothers Vilas and Rupesh Pawar, Ashish Gosawi and Pravin Monkar had gone for a swim early in the day at a waterhole that was built as a storage of water for construction purposes in the nearby complexes. Subsequently, it was abandoned by the developers. The waterhole is around 150 feet in length and 20 feet deep, according to the police.
Dahisar police were alerted about the missing boys when worried parents contacted them after the boys failed to return till late Saturday afternoon. Police immediately launched a search operation along with the fire brigade.
But the search party failed to locate any bodies in the waterhole though the operation continued till late night. The search resumed early today. The fire brigade employed experienced fishermen to search through the waters which had turned murky due to long period of stagnancy. At around 3 pm the four bodies were fished out and sentto Cooper Hospital for post-mortem. While police have yet to ascertain if any of the youths did not know swimming, a case has been registered of death by drowning.
