The scrutiny of the applications for the coach of the Indian football team has been completed.
Speaking to The Indian Express, C R Viswanathan, chairman of the technical committee said, “I have gone through the 15 applications and have prepared my report which I will submit to the president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), P R Dasmunsi when he returns from Bangladesh.”
According to him once Dasmunsi goes through the report, the four-member committee that was constituted will sit on September 30 and finalise the new coach.
The committee consists of C R Viswanathan, Chuni Goswami, P K Banerjee and Derek D’Souza.
When contacted Albert Colaco, general secretary of the AIFF said that they have received few applications for the post of the technical director.
“I cannot give the names of those who have applied and we should be in a position to announce the name by the end of the month along with that of the coach,” he added.
Of the two known Bengal faces who have submitted their CVs, Subrata Bhattacharya said he would want a stint “till the Asian Games.”
Talking to The Indian Express, he explained that he could easily lift the performance of the Indian team with a “mix of old and new footballers”. He said he wasn’t opposed to a foreign technical director.
Another coach, Syed Nayeemuddin, said the usual practice of camps was good. “Maybe some camps even out of the country-” As for the technical director, he felt an Indian could do the job well enough. PK Banerjee was a name on the lips of both, though the AIFF it seems has decided on foreign flavour.
In contention:
Subarta Bhattacharya, Satheevan Balan, M Peethambaram, KP Sethumadhavan, M Ratan Kumar Singh, Prasantha Banerjee, Naeemuddin, Rajeev PK, K Suresh Babu, Jahar Das, Ekendra Singh, Shyamal Bannerjee, Gurcharan Singh Parmar, Birbal Singh and Debashish Mukherjee.
