
PUNE, August 1: In response to the University of Pune’s official press release on Thursday that the Progressive Education Society (PES)’s Modern College of Engineering, and the Modern Education Society (MES)’s College of Engineering, were not yet recognised by the University, the chairman of Progressive Education Society today said that the All India Council For Technical Education AICTE, Delhi, had on July 2 ’99, granted permission to PES to start an engineering college.
On July 5, ’99, the State Government sent a letter of permission to PES to start an engineering college in Pune from the academic year 1999-2000, following which the name of the college was included in the list of colleges for centralised engineering admissions, said PES chairman Gajanan R Ekbote, in a press release today.
Ekbote said that under the University Act ’94, Section 83, the University must begin the process of granting affiliation to an institute which the State Government has granted permission to start a college.
