
Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Shanta Kumar pre-empted disciplinary action against himself by the BJP today by offering an apology to party president K Jana Krishnamurthi for his public remarks on the Gujarat issue.
BJP general secretary Maya Singh said Krishnamurthi had 8216;8216;accepted8217;8217; Kumar8217;s apology for 8216;8216;his outburst.8217;8217;
Maya Singh said that Kumar, a former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, had written a letter to Krishnamurthi saying he 8216;8216;made a very emotional statement publicly which he should not have done. I am very sorry. I had no intention of acting in such an indisciplinary indisciplined way.8217;8217; And that he had been a 8216;8216;devoted and disciplined worker8217;8217; since his childhood. 8216;8216;I regret for such public statement made by me,8217;8217;he said.
In an exclusive interview to The Indian Express Shanta Kumar had said that he was 8216;8216;pained and disgusted8217;8217; at what was going on in Gujarat and had demanded strong action against the VHP and the Bajrang Dal for trying to 8216;8216;destroy the very fabric of the country.8217;8217; He had also said that 8216;8216;those counting votes on dead bodies are not Hindus. Those who think of consolidating Hindutva by shedding blood in Gujarat are the enemies of Hindus.8217;8217;
This prompted Union Home Minister L K Advani to state at Panaji that action would be taken against those indulging in indiscipline. Thereafter, Krishnamurthi had said that an explanation would be sought from Shanta Kumar.
