Sources in the NSW said a few formalities between the two countries also needed to be worked out.

The train service was suspended on August 25, 2006, after the unprecedented rains last year resulted in severe waterlogging in Barmer. Earlier last week, the tracks were tested a number of times before finally being cleared for regular train services.

Resumed on February 17 last year after a span of four decades, the once-a-week Thar Express had received an overwhelming response from the people of both India and Pakistan. During the six months that the train ran, more than 10,000 Indians visited Pakistan.

The official confirmation came from Pakistan on Wednesday, and the NWR staff is now preparing to visit Islamabad to meet the Railway Authorities there and complete formalities. Chief Commercial Manager Passenger, NWR, S B Gandhi stated that a few staff members were waiting for their visas.
