After days of internal consultations, the CPIM has finally made up its mind to ally with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu in the next general elections, bolstering its efforts to form a non-Congress, non-BJP electoral alternative.

The decision is expected to get the seal of approval of the Politburo which meets here over the weekend. The CPI has already decided to join hands with the AIADMK.

Top sources in the CPIM said the electoral strategy to be adopted in both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh would be finalised at the Politburo meeting.

Though differences of perception exist between the CPIM and AIADMK on several issues, including on the Ram Sethu controversy, the exigencies of electoral politics have driven the Left parties to tie up with Jayalalithaa.

Both the CPIM and CPI have also resolved their differences on the electoral strategy to the adopted in Andhra Pradesh.

While the CPIM has already decided to ally with the TDP, the CPI was dilly-dallying after its state unit expressed the wish to go with Chiranjeevi8217;s Praja Rajyam.

The CPI central leadership finally prevailed over the state unit and last week decided to go with the TDP.
