
CHANDIGARH, July 22: Admissions to the general seats of engineering and architecture in Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh College of Architecture and Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Punjab University, for the year 1999-2000, commenced at the PU Law auditorium, here today.
While the first counselling of students for the general seats was held today, the second counselling would be held on Friday and Saturday. Admissions to engineering and architecture courses would, however, end on Saturday.
Interviews for SC/ST seats have already been held on July 20, those for sports and handicapped seats ended on July 21. In all, there are 355 seats in eight streams, besides 28 seats for national and state sponsored candidates, in PEC. All the seats 8211; 10 in general pool and 14 in UT pool, in the Chandigarh College of Architecture have been filled today, with the last candidate admitted in the general pool having the rank of 74.
For the general pool of engineering seats in Punjab Engineering College, only 14 seats in the civil stream and 10 seats in Metallurgy branch remain to be filled. For the UT pool in PEC, however, seven seats are vacant in Aeronautical branch, 27 in Civil, 19 in Electrical, 4 in Mechanical, 20 in Metallurgy and 14 in Production branch.
There are also 10 seats remaining to be filled in the PU Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology. Of the total 39 seats in the Department, 29 have already been filled, with the last candidate admitted having the rank of 697.
While the last rank seeking admission in the general pool category in Aeronautical stream is 626, that in the Civil stream is 657, 127 in Computer Science and Engineering, 464 in Electrical, 195 in Electronics and Electrical Communication engineering, 334 in Mechanical, 657 in Metallurgy and 563 rank in Production.
However, in the UT pool, the last candidate admitted so far in Computer Science and Engineering stream is of 213 rank, that in Electrical 649, in Electronics and Electrical Communication 415, and in Mechanical, 697.
