FARIDKOT, Oct 15: The residents of Kot Kapura, the most populous town of the district, have been facing acute water shortage for the last 10 days because of bundhi closing in the branch of Sirhind canal, which supplies water to the town.

The residents can be seen carrying buckets and containers on scooters and cycles in the mornings and evenings in the search of water in the adjoining areas. About 80,000 people depend upon the drinking water supplied by the Water Sewerage Board, financed by the municipal committee for the purpose.

The officials of the Water and Sewerage Board and the MC are blaming each other for the failure of supply system. Manmohan Singh, the local SDO of the board, when contacted said that the nagar council was not providing required funds for the proper maintenance of the supply system.

On the other hand Kala Ram, the president of the nagar council, alleged that the board had wasted huge amounts, deposited by the council, for laying of sewerage in the town.
