
Blazing a trail has become a norm with these youngsters. First, it was the first-ever national level debate competition in Chandigarh, now Wordz, the debating society brings to students the WORDZ Model United Nations Conference 2008. 8220;It took us a year to prepare for the event since we began toying with the idea. In India such activities are restricted to metros, but elsewhere students are active in discussing, formulating and sharing opinions on such platforms,8221; Anit Batra, Secretary General tells us. While the first phase of the event was a training session with participation of students and teachers from the tricity in August, the event culminates with a conference from October 6 to October 8 at CII Convention Centre, Sector 31, Chandigarh. 8220;We are expecting 150 students from across the country and many students have approached us requesting individual participation and we are only too happy to have them particiapte,8221; smiles Ashmita Gupta, Vice-President.
The conference is recognised by the United Nations Information Centre, New Delhi, while Alchemist and UT Administration are supporting the event. At the conference students will discuss Prevention of an Outer Space Arms Space and Nuclear Waste Disposal. The Economic and Social Council will bring Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance and Strengthening Children8217;s and Women8217;s Right on the platform, while for the Security Council the agendas will be Myanmar 8211; A Country in Paradox and Unrest In Dafur. 8220;We want to talk about things that matter, and how we as youngsters, can make a difference,8221; Batra hopes to make such events frequent.
