The CPIM may share an ideological bond with the Communist Party of China. But neither the CPC nor the Chinese Government invited the Indian Communists, especially the CPIM, to witness the gala opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics even though Congress president Sonia Gandhi did get an invite. CPIM leader and Kerala8217;s Sports Minister M Vijayakumar will, however, fly to China as a member of the Indian delegation as he got a last-minute clearance from the MEA.
