NEW DELHI, August 9: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi MCD has prosecuted 850 persons and has filed the first information reports FIRs against 320 others for violating its order banning the sale of cut fruits, sugarcane juice and unwholesome ice.

The ban was imposed at the onset of monsoons to prevent the spread of communicable diseases like cholera, gastroenteritis and hepatitis.

Disclosing this in a statement issued here today, municipal commissioner V.K. Duggal said the action was taken following a special drive launched on Friday with a view to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases.

The maximum number of prosecutions have been reported in the MCD8217;s south Delhi zone where 511 persons have been booked.
