Prince Mukarram Jah, the Nizam of Hyderabad who now lives in Turkey, will have to shell out seven lakh US dollars as mehr or alimony to estranged third wife and former Miss Turkey Manolya Onur, a family court here ruled on Monday.

Mukkaram Jah will have to pay 15,000 per month towards maintenance of Manolya and her 15-year-old daughter Niloufer, which includes payment for rent in lieu of residential accommodation, as per the decree issued by Judge Radhakrishnaiah.

The maintenance is payable from February 1996, the time Manolya had filed the suit. She also has to be paid 28,000 as arrears of the rent payable by the Nizam. The prince, who had divorced Manolya in the mid-1990s, is also required to pay the interest on the alimony sum from February 10, 1995.

Jah, who owns a string of palaces in the city, will in addition to all this have to pay three lakh dollars with interest from February 10, 1995, in return of a loan he took from Manolya, her counsel S H Prasad said.

For recovery of the money, the palaces of Nizam Chiran Fort, Chowmohalla and Falaknuma in the city and Cedar Palace in Ooty have been charged which means they cannot be sold to anyone.

Mukkaram Jah had married Manolya in 1989 and both lived at Chiran Fort Palace in the city for some time.

After seeking divorce from Manolya, the Nizam had married a 22 year-old Moroccan and now lives at a seaside resort in Turkey while Manolya is in Istanbul with her daughter.
