
As many as 63 labourers, including women and children, who were held captive by labour agents in a dense forest, were rescued by police in Belpara late on Monday.
All the labourers, belonging to Sonepur district, were forcibly brought to Jamki by a labour agent. The labourers were held hostage in the dense forest for two days.
While one labour agent has been arrested, two others are still at large.
According to police sources, Raju Majhi, the labour agent, gathered a few labourers from Menda and Rajapali villages of Sonepur district and brought them to Jamki forest with a promise to give them work.
DSP crime N C Dandasena, who led the police team and conducted the raid on the forest, said, 8220;Once the labourers were brought to Jamki forest, they were told to go to Hyderabad, which they were not aware of when they were brought from their villages.8221;
