Five Sashastra Suraksha Bal SSB jawans and a civilian were abducted by suspected militants from a village in Assam8217;s Darrang district on Sunday night. Police and intelligence agencies were yet to find their whereabouts, though civilian Babul Kalita, whose house was rented by the SSB for camp office, was found murdered in a nearby village the next day, sources said.

A group of 20-25 unidentified persons arrived at Mora-Dhansiri village, surrounded the SSB camp office and abducted the jawans and Kalita, sources said.

Kalita8217;s body, found in a drain, bore marks indicating sharp weapons used to murder him. There were no bullet injuries, sources said.

Neither has any outfit claimed responsibility for the abduction of the five jawans, nor has any ransom call been made. Police suspect it to be the handiwork of either the ULFA or the NDFB.
