Janata Dal United parliamentary party leader Prabhunath Singh on Thursday declared that five MPs of the party in the Lok Sabha would resign from the House on Friday.
8220;All five MPs of the JDU in the Lok Sabha will resign tomorrow. We have secured an appointment with Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Friday morning,8221; Singh told reporters. The declaration comes after the autopsy report of Rahul Raj8212;shot dead by the Mumbai Police8212;reportedly said he was shot from a very close range.
JDU8217;s move, aimed at scoring political points, is sure to put pressure on rivals RJD and LJP from Bihar who are part of the UPA Government at the Centre. The resignations are sure to be played out in Bihar, as the death of two Bihari youths in anti-north Indian attacks in Maharashtra has struck an emotional chord in the state. Bihar was also rocked by violent protests from students demanding stern action against Raj Thackeray or resignation of leaders from the state.
8220;The autopsy report of Rahul Raj who was shot dead by the Mumbai Police clearly shows he was murdered in cold blood. So far the UPA Government at the Centre and in Maharashtra have not taken any concrete step. It seems they are supporting forces out to break the country. In such a situation our MPs are resigning in protest,8221; said JDU spokesman and MP Shivanand Tiwary. He said UPA heavyweights Lalu and Paswan should use their clout and do something or else they should also quit.
Days after an all-party delegation from Bihar met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to intervene in Maharashtra, JDU president Sharad Yadav declared that party MPs would resign if Raj Thackeray was not arrested under MCOCA and a CBI probe ordered into the killing of the Patna youth by the Mumbai Police. Caught unawares, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad tried to counter the move by declaring that not only his MPs but MLAs and MLCs from Bihar would also resign over the issue and dared the JDU leadership to do the same. However, Nitish countered by saying such a move would lead to imposition of President8217;s Rule in Bihar. 8220;There is demand for imposition of President8217;s Rule in Maharahstra. But Lalu8217;s formula will lead to President8217;s Rule in Bihar8221;, he remarked.
