5 injured in clash between inmates and jail officials

One the inmates, who was on hunger strike for the last couple of days, was reportedly instigating other inmates and demanding better food and other facilities inside the jail, police said.

The jail officials tried to handle the situation by talking to the inmates, but when the situation got out of hand, they resorted to lathicharge, in which five inmates were injured.

Two of the inmates have been shifted to the civil hospital, as they received grievous injuries during the clash. The situation is now under control and all the inmates who sustained injuries are being treated at the central jail8217;s medical facility.
