
The West Bengal Police on Saturday arrested a Nepalese Maoist and three Nepalese accomplices in Darjeeling8217;s Merick subdivision. Acting on a tip, Darjeeling SP Rajiv Mishra said: 8216;8216;The Maoist came for treatment of his eyes which suffered injuries in a grenade blast sometine back.8217;8217;
8216;8216;We8217;re looking into the involvement of the three accomplices who came with him,8217;8217; Mishra said. Incidentally, the North Bengal Police was put on a special alert earlier this month with Maoists intensifying their activities in Nepal.
The West Bengal government feared that there could be a spillover in case the confrontation between Maoists and the Royal Nepal Army got hot. In March, senior Maoist leader Mohan Baydya was arrested from Siliguri and is in the judicial custody of West Bengal police. Baydya was arrested when he was receiving treatment at a local hospital.
