2 RPF men killed in Bihar train attack

Two RPF constables were killed and three jawans injured when nearly 40 suspected members of the banned CPI-Maoists attacked a passenger train on Sunday morning in Jamui district of Bihar. However, no passengers were hurt in the incident which took place near Ghorparan station between Jhagha and Jasidih on the Howrah-New Delhi main line under the Eastern Railway.

A R Ambedkar, Superintendent of Police, Jamui, told The Indian Express that the Naxals sprinkled chilli powder on the RPF jawans escorting the train and ran away with 1 SLR, 2 carbines and 2 pistols. 8220;When challenged by the jawans they fired and killed two RPF constables and injured three others,8221; the SP added. Ambedkar also confirmed that no passenger was injured in the attack. A 100-member RPF contingent was rushed from Asansol in West Bengal to assist the Bihar Police and Central Paramilitary Forces in combing operations.

The police said that women cadres of the group took part in the train attack. In the last two attacks too, one in Sitamarhi of Bihar and the other in Bermo of Jharkhand, women members were actively involved. Last Friday, the Naxals had attacked a CISF camp in Jharkhand and killed 8 jawans and fled with their arms.

In another incident, Naxals attacked a CRPF contingent near Hassanpur village under Aati police station in Gaya district today. The attack came when the CRPF contingent was returning after conducting a routine raid in villages falling under Konch police station to flush out the extremists, CRPF Assistant Commandant S K Savita said. No one was injured.

The Naxalites left with one SLR and three rifles after an encounter that lasted for half an hour, Savita said.

Two countrymade guns, live wire used for detonating land mine blasts, 200 live cartridges of different bores, Naxalite literature and police uniform were recovered.
