SURAT, Nov 22: As many as 2.46 lakh children below the age of five were administered pulse polio doses by the Surat Municipal Corporation on Sunday, thus achieving 88.5 per cent target in the second round of the intensified pulse polio immunisation programme, a SMC release issued said.

Of the total 2,78,748 children below the age of five who were identified as targets for immunisation, 2,46,817 children were administered the doses at the 1288 immunisation centres set up across the city, the release added.

In addition, another 2694 children were administered the doses at the railway station, central bus stop and octroi posts by mobile teams throughout the day.

The health department stated that it had set up special teams of health workers and other persons in all the six municipal zones of the city and stationed employees of the civic body along with medical students. While the zones acted as distribution centres, 212 supervisors, 1237 paramedics 8212; vaccinators, primary health workers and nurses 8212; and a number of medical students from the city provided their services during the pulse polio campaign.
