19-yr-old ends life over dowry8217;

DERA BASSI, May 12: A 19-year-old girl died after consuming a poisonous substance yesterday allegedly after continuous harassment by her husband and in-laws over bringing insufficient dowry.

Bandana, who belonged to Ambala, had been married to Yashpal of Dera Bassi for only four months. Soon after the incident, she was rushed to the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital where was declared quot;brought deadquot;, police said. Those booked include Yashpal8217;s father Amar, mother Saraswati and sister Rano. The Dera Bassi police said that while Amar was arrested today, the other three accused are absconding.

In her complaint, the deceased8217;s mother, Reeta Rani, alleged that her daughter was being tortured by her husband on the instigation of his parents for bringing less dowry.
