
Chandigarh, May 31: IN a joint statement issued here this evening, 18 members of the Panjab University Senate, including six syndics, have endorsed the decision of the syndicate seeking removal of the 19 superannuated persons.
The senators also criticised the decision of the Vice-Chancellor to adjourn the May 25 meeting of the syndicate terming it quot;uncalled for, illegal and unethical.quot; At a meeting held this afternoon, it was decided that the members would quot;approach the Chancellor forthwith to apprise him of the various violations of the PU calendar being committed by the VC and high-profiled officials of the University, also with regard to the termination of Principal D.L. Anand.quot;
No water supply
There was no water supply in village Hallomajra for the entire day today and residents had a hard time collecting water. Some people had to go and get water from Ram Darbar area. Students celebrate no-smoking day.
S.D. Senior Secondary School, Sector 24, today organised a function to mark World No Smoking Day. On this occasion, about 200 children of various classes marched to spread teh message, quot;Cigarrette smoking is injurious to health. Stop it.quot; The function was attended by president of the Environment Society, S.K. Sharma. Interestingly, the children also pledged to ask their fathers to stop smoking.
Dalit delegation meets IGP
A delegation of Dalit Sena led by Inder Singh Pappu, president and Shiv Kumar Nishad, met the Inspector General of Police Assad Farooqi and told him that no SHO or DSP from scheduled caste has been deputed at any police station despite the fact that there is a reservation of 33 per cent. The IGP assured the delegation that he will look into teh matter at teh earliest possible.
