MDMK leader Vaiko who arrived in Delhi to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi had to return disappointed after he was denied an audience. Vaiko apparently wanted the good offices of the Congress in settling the ongoing seat negotiations in the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in Tamil Nadu, but the Congress is believed to have been dissuaded by the DMK from intervening. Vaiko reached Delhi today with the intention of meeting with Sonia Gandhi and left for Chennai in the evening. Sources said that Vaiko wanted the Congress to persuade either the DMK to part with a few more seats or alternatively, or the Congress to give him a few specific seats from its own quota. The DMK, which saw this as a challenge to its role as ally leader reportedly expressed unhappiness and the Congress found it prudent not to intervene in the matter.
