2 held for making extortion call to Mulund fruit seller
On the basis of the information received from an informant, the team of the Property Cell conducted a search operation in Dombivli Reti Bandar area.

THE MUMBAI crime branch arrested two persons in connection with allegedly extorting a Mulund-based fruit trader. As per police, on December 4, a fruit trader residing at Mulund was contacted by an unknown person on his mobile phone. The caller threatened to kill the trader if he didn’t pay Rs 15 lakh. The fruit trader filed a complaint Navghar Police Station in Mulund on December 11.
Recognising the seriousness of the said crime, a parallel investigation by the Property Cell, Crime Branch was launched. On the basis of the information received from an informant, the team of the Property Cell conducted a search operation in Dombivli Reti Bandar area.
The team detained the main accused in the crime and seized the mobile phone used in the crime from him. In his interrogation, he confessed to the crime and gave information about his accomplice living in Mulund, an officer said. The second accused was also detained from Mulund and arrested.
The two accused have been handed over to Navghar Police Station along with the seized property. The accused have been identified as Vikas Soni (34), a Dombivli resident, and Sohanlal Jaiswal (32), a Mulund resident. The duo was produced before a court and remanded to police custody.
