Two years after launch, Railways upgrades India’s 30th Vande Bharat train to 20 coaches – check route

In 2023, the train was launched with eight coaches. However, with effect from May 22, 2025, the train was augmented with eight more coaches, taking the total number of coach count to 16. After augmentation, the the Mangaluru Central–Thiruvananthapuram Central– Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express has been running with 14– Chair Car Coaches and 2- Executive Class Coaches (total 16 Coaches).

Mangaluru Central–Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat train to run with 20 coaches

Due to rising passenger demand and higher occupancy, the railways has decided to introduce a 20-coach rake for the Mangaluru Central–Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express. This will add 312 more seats to the existing 1128 seats and cater to the increased demand of commuters on this train (total 1440 seats).

• Train number 20631 Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express will run with 20-car rake with effect from September 9, 2025.
• Train number 20632 Thiruvananthapuram Central-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express will run with 20-car rake with effect from September 9, 2025.

After the revision in coach compostion, the train numbers 20631/20632 Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express will have 16-chair car coaches and 2-Executive Chair Car coaches.

Presently, 150 services of Vande Bharat Express trains are operational across the country. These trains are equipped with world class amenities and advanced safety features, including Kavach technology.
