🔴 As US President Joe Biden postponed his trip to Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Wednesday that the Quad meeting of the leaders of Australia, Japan, India and the United States would not go ahead in Sydney next week. Albanese added that an existing bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi may still go ahead.

🔴 Meanwhile, PM Modi is headed to Hiroshima for the G7 leaders’ summit this Friday — a first visit to the Japanese city by an Indian PM since India conducted nuclear tests in Pokhran in 1974.

🔴 In his weekly column, C Raja Mohan writes on Modi’s engagements with India’s allies at the G7 summit, the Quad summit (now called off), and bilateral visits to Washington and Paris in June and July. “There will be many disagreements on the details of the specific outcomes in rearranging the global economic order. Building on new opportunities and resolving new problems must be viewed as a historic opportunity for India’s economic statecraft,” he writes.

👉🏽 The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and senior advocate K V Viswanathan as Judges of the Supreme Court. If appointed, Viswanathan would be in line to serve as Chief Justice of India from August 12, 2030, till May 25, 2031.

As Pradeep Kurulkar, a top scientist with the Defence Research and Development Organisation, was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad on May 3 on charges of alleged espionage, his colleagues and friends talk of him as a “taskmaster who is good at resolving conflicts”, a “multifaceted scientist” and a “talkative boss who loves telling stories”. 

Instead of its normal date of June 1, the monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala by June 4, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
