Off the Wall: Home is where the art is

If Rishi Singhal investigates the continuously evolving world order through explorations of natural and built environments and their interrelationship, UK-based Debra Lorraine Grant shares her dinner plate. The series 28 Days 28 Dinners records meals cooked by Grant for her husband over 28 days — from “tired” days calling for takeaways to experimenting with limited ingredients and coping with children’s demand for pancakes on difficult days. “These everyday activities, which could be considered as mundane, are a fundamental part of life, and although this meal may greatly differ in content and form from home to home, it remains the case that we all eat,” says a note on Grant’s web page.

The meaning of home is directly addressed by Anusha Yadav, who photographs people in their space and asks them to describe it. The subjects vary from a fashion intern, who dreams of having her own home to a filmmaker, who describes home as “refuge and fantasy”.

“This is the space women unquestionably belong to; the home, that is not a mere four-walled entity. It is their pride, comfort, desires, love and personality on display,” says Yadav.
