India hosted the beauty competition last year as well.India’s Nandini Gupta exited after making it to the final 20. Six Indian women have won the title, including Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000) and Manushi Chillar (2017).
The event commenced in Hyderabad, Telangana, marking a significant moment as India hosts this prestigious event once again. Representing India this year was Nandini Gupta, competing in the ongoing month-long Miss World 2025 contest in Hyderabad, Telangana. Out of 108 young contestants, Nandini already made it to the Top 40.
Gupta was eliminated before she could reach top 8 at the 72nd Miss World contest on Saturday, being held in Hyderabad.
If Gupta had won the pageant, she would have been the seventh one from India to take the crown. Manushi Chillar was the last to win in 2017.
The first Miss World from India was Reita Faria, who won the crown in 1966. Incidentally, she was also the first Asian Miss world.
Aishwarya Rai won the crown in 1994, Diana Hayden in 1997, Yukta Mookhey in 1999, and Priyanka Chopra in 2000.
Crowned Miss India 2023 after winning the Miss Rajasthan title, 21-year-old Nandini Gupta, hails from Kaithun, a small town near Kota. Her father is a farmer, her mother a homemaker, and she has a younger sister. “We also have a little Labrador, Banjo. I grew up playing in the fields of mustard, millets, and black chickpeas,” she told SheThePeople in an interview.
