If in a postcard addressed to ITDC he draws “Personal Postcards”, another has a “Sinhasan” and a “Peacock Throne”. Both owe provenance to a renowned Delhi-based gallery, just like a Bhupen Khakhar ceramic pot, with fine lines circling its circumference. Designed in the mid-90s, during a ceramics workshop held at OP Jain’s Sanskriti Art Foundation, this is priced between Rs 2-3 lakh. The pot is one of the 72 lots that feature in the “Collectables” section, which also comprises picture books from the British raj, Mont Blanc pens and Bollywood lobby cards. “These stunning pieces will transport you to a different era,” says Siddhartha Tagore, director, Art Deal. Sixty-one works of folk art will be seen under a separate compartmentalisation, from Gond veteran Jangarh Singh Shyam to Mithila artist Baua Devi. There is the more mainstream too in the “Modern & Contemporary Masters” section — a Ram Kumar abstract acrylic and Sailoz Mookherjea watercolour in warm colours.

“This auction will offer works by contemporary artists and some rare works by illustrious Bengal masters such as Jamini Roy and Nandalal Bose,” says Tagore.
