Did you know that as we transition into spring, it is an opportune time to have more of this red-pink-pigmented beetroot in your daily spring diet? Ayurvedic practitioner Varalakshmi Yanamandra says beetroot is a great addition to your diet during early spring to bring warmth as well as cleanse your liver. “Ayurvedically speaking, beetroot is an earthy vegetable that is soothing for vata. It is a nourishing vegetable with liver-cleansing properties. It aids in toning rakta dhatu or blood tissue,” said Yanamandra in a post on Instagram.

According to Yanamandra, beetroot is rich in phytonutrients and antioxidants which are healing for our gut. It is also rich in fibre and nitrates which aid in circulation. “It is anti-inflammatory in nature and diversifies your gut microbiome.”
