Janhvi Kapoor, known for her radiant and flawless complexion, revealed the secret behind her glowing skin — a DIY face mask. Made of honey, mashed bananas, and curd, accompanied by an orange scrub and almond oil, Kapoor touted it for its various benefits. With social media abuzz with claims of its effectiveness, Dr Aanchal Panth gave her two cents on this celebrity-endorsed skincare remedy. Let’s understand whether it is actually worth trying.

Kapoor started by taking curd with an extra layer of malai, honey, and mashed bananas in a bowl. Mixing it well together, she applied it to her clean face. Next, she squeezed an orange and applied its juice to the mask, gently rubbing it across her face. After washing the mask off, she applied almond oil under her eyes.

Explaining its efficacy, Dr Panth noted that while it is a hydrating mask, applying orange on the face is not recommended. “This is a good mask you can use, especially if you have dry skin, then this will help in moisturising. As she used the malai of the curd, so the thicker part of it will be even more moisturising,” she said, however pointing out that scrubbing orange juice on the face can be very irritating to the skin. “It can sensitise your skin towards UV rays, especially if you are someone with sensitive skin or dark spots. Avoid this completely,” she added.

As for the almond oil, Dr Panth explained that it can be applied under the eyes as well as on the whole face, especially after the trauma done by the orange; it acts as a good moisturiser.

Here’s a breakdown of the ingredients:

  1. Honey: It is a natural humectant, meaning it helps retain moisture in the skin, making it soft and supple. It also possesses antimicrobial properties, making it effective in fighting acne-causing bacteria and soothing inflammation.
  2. Bananas: They are rich in vitamins and minerals, including potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin E, which nourish and hydrate the skin. The enzymes present in bananas also gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and revealing a brighter complexion.
  3. Curd: It contains lactic acid, which acts as a gentle exfoliant, promoting cell turnover and revealing fresher, younger-looking skin. It also has moisturising properties and helps soothe irritation and redness.
  4. Orange: Citrus fruits, including oranges, contain natural acids that can be irritating to sensitive skin, especially when applied directly. It has compounds that can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight, increasing the risk of sunburn and damage. If using orange juice or zest directly on the skin, it’s advisable to dilute it with water or mix it with other soothing ingredients to reduce the risk of irritation.
  5. Almond oil: It is rich in vitamin E and fatty acids, which moisturise and nourish the skin, leaving it soft and smooth. It also helps fade scars and dark spots, giving the skin a more even tone.

However, it’s essential to consider your skin type, allergies, and individual concerns before incorporating this remedy into your skincare routine. Consulting with a dermatologist or skincare professional can also provide personalized recommendations tailored to your specific needs.
