How to achieve ‘diamond lips’, a makeup trend going viral on TikTok

Social media has always found new and exciting ways to reinvent lipstick, which is a staple in every makeup lover’s kit. Whether it’s a matte finish or a glossy shine, there’s a lipstick trend out there for everyone to rock with confidence. And now, yet another lipstick trend is going viral on TikTok, a social media platform that is rapidly emerging as the hub for — often interesting, and sometimes bizarre — beauty hacks. But, what is it? It’s called ‘diamond lips’, a hashtag first coined by content creator Eva Larosa which has already garnered more than four million views.

In her tutorial, Eva can be seen lining her cupid’s bow with a silver metallic eyeliner pencil and then placing the shade in the centre of her top and bottom lips, according to E News. She then uses a lip liner to fill in the sides of her mouth and blended the two products with her fingers. Finally, she layered a clear lip balm and completed the lip shade with a sparkly eyeshadow to give some extra shimmer to her lips.

But, it doesn’t have to be so complicated always, as shown by other content creators. The diamond lips trend can be achieved in various ways. Some people opt for applying lip gloss or lip balm with glitter or shimmer, while others use adhesive-backed crystals or rhinestones to create the look.

Talking about the trend, Mehak Kawatra, a makeup artist, said, “It is very easy to create and only requires a few makeup items which are already available in the makeup stash. The trend became viral because it involves simple steps and is very quick to achieve without going through any expensive treatment or lip injections.”

Adding, Tushar Gupta, a celebrity makeup artist, said, “TikTok-approved makeup trend — diamond lips technique — gives your lips a shimmer like a diamond but it’s still subtle enough for everyday wear. You likely already have the products required for the method stashed in your makeup vanity. To achieve the look, you need to layer a few unconventional lip products, including a metallic eye pencil and illuminating eye shadow, with a neutral lip liner and clear lip gloss.”

Here’s how you can recreate it, according to Kawatra:

*First, create a thin line with your silver eyeliner on your cupid’s bow.
*Then, fill in the centre of your lower lip with the same pencil. You can use your finger to give it a smudged look.
*Now, use your nude lip liner and line your lips except the cupid’s bow.
*Apply a clear gloss on your entire lips and dab some silver or shimmery eyeshadow on the centre of your lips.

“Your lips look quite voluminous with this simple trick without going through any lip-plumping product. Whether heading for a party or a wedding, diamond lips will definitely make your lips talk,” the makeup artiste said.
