Who doesn’t want healthy, glowing skin? As we transition into a new year soon, let’s take a look at some underrated skincare habits we picked up and depended on this year. A Threads post from health.bio.hacking compiled it as follows.

Cold water face rinse:

Skip hot water in the morning. A splash of cold water tightens pores, reduces puffiness, and boosts circulation for an instant glow.

30-second massage with cleansing oil:

Take a little extra time with your cleanser. Massaging oil-based cleansers can dissolve impurities, stimulate circulation, and leave skin soft and plump.

Green tea ice cubes

Freeze green tea into ice cubes and rub it over your face to reduce inflammation, shrink pores, and add antioxidants to your skincare routine.

Silk pillowcase for better skin

Switch to a silk pillowcase to reduce friction on your skin while you sleep. This helps prevent wrinkles, minimises irritation, and keeps your skin hydrated overnight.

Hands off your face!

The simplest rule but often ignored. Avoid touching your face throughout the day to prevent bacteria transfer, acne, and premature ageing.

Are these hacks foolproof?

Skincare habits like washing your face with cold water, using a silk pillowcase, massaging your face with cleansing oil or green tea ice cubes, and, most importantly, keeping your hands off your face can be great additions to your skincare routine, said Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist, and dermatosurgeon at The Esthetic Clinics.

However, these skincare habits may not be suitable for all skin types or textures, contended Dr Kapoor.

“It is believed that massaging your face with cleansing oil or ice cubes can help calm your skin while helping unclog clogged pores. It can also help improve your skin’s elasticity and reduce the visible appearance of fine lines on your skin. Rinsing your face with cold water is fine, but frequently using cold or ice water can increase the risk of cold, cough, and sinusitis, especially during the colder weather,” said Dr Kapoor.

Some people have this “weird habit” of frequently touching their faces. According to Dr. Kapoor, this habit can significantly harm your skin, resulting in acne, pimples, and breakouts.

Along with these skincare habits, one should also focus on the type of diet they are consuming. “If you are constantly eating fried or processed food, then you are bound to experience a range of skin problems. Try eating clean and well-balanced meals. Other lifestyle modifications like sleeping for 7 to 8 hours, eating on time, staying hydrated, using gentle soaps or skincare products, and maintaining hygiene can be helpful,” said Dr Kapoor.
